Functions of a multimeter?

A multimeter combines the functions of an ammeter, voltmeter, and ohmmeter and, so, can be used to measure current, voltage, and resistance by selecting the appropriate scale/setting.

A current is measured in which unit?

The Ampere, also in shortened form 'Amp' or "A". It commonly uses the symbol "I" in calculations, hence Ohm's law is in the form V = I x R

What is the difference between ammeters and amp meters?

An Ammeter connects a low impedance on the test points, so the equivalent of that is a "short circuit" between the test points. This is done to avoid a drop of current on the tested circuit. A Voltmeter connects a high impedance on the test points, so the equivalent of that is a "open circuit" between the test points. This is done to avoid a drop of voltage on the tested circuit. --------- In terms of external connections Ammeter (used to measure current) is connected in series of the circuit (through which the current flow need to be measured) and voltmeter (used to measure voltage) is connected in parallel to points in circuit (across which voltage needs to be measured).

Why does an ammeter have a low resistance while a voltmeter has high resistance?

I am going to assume that you mean low "resistance" in an open circuit test and are performing this with a multimeter. An ammeter works by place a very small amount of resistance in series with a circuit and then measuring the Voltage drop across the resistance. The Voltage is directly proportional to the current as given in ohms law: E = I x R If you are measuring the resistance through the ammeter it will have a very low resistance and impedance.

What instruments used in measuring current and voltage?

Multi meterAnswerInstruments that measure current are called ammeters, and instruments that measure voltage are called voltmeters. An instrument that measures resistance is called an ohmmeter. Each of these functions can be combined into one instrument, called a multimeter.

What is the purpose of multimeter in a laboratory?

it can be used as a ammeter, voltmeter and also as a ohmmeter.

Can multimeter be used as voltmeter and ammeter?

Put a known small resistance (maybe 1 ohm) in parallel to it. Then use the equation I=V/R (R being the known resistance, and V being the voltage readout) So when using a 1 ohm resistor, if the voltmeter reads 2.35V, it means I=2.35/1 = 2.35 A

How is an ammeter converted to a voltmeter?

The ammeter is used in series, because you want to measure the current through a circuit. The voltmeter is used in parallel, because you want to measure the voltage across a circuit. If you were to place the voltmeter in series, no current would flow because of the relatively high impedance of the voltmeter. If you were to place the ammeter in parallel, you would create a short-circuit, due to the relatively low impedance of the ammeter.

What instrument is used to measure the amount of electricity flowing through a circuit?

An ampermeter. -- voltmeter-- ammeter-- ohmmeter-- wattmeter-- frequency counterWe can't "measure electricity" unless we figure out what we are measuring. The difference of electrical potential is measured in units called volts, and a voltmeter is used to do that. The amount of electrical current flow is measured in units called amps (amperes), and an ammeter is used to for that purpose. A multimeter combines the functions of these two meters, and will most often include some other features to measure some other electrical characteristics. An example of another measuring function of a multimeter might be its use as an ohmmeter for measuring electrical resistance.im so bored

Could a voltmeter be used in a wheatstone bridge instead of an ammeter?

Yes, of course.

What is the calibration of ammeter?

An ammeter should not be used as a voltmeter. An ammeter is a low impedance device that measures the current going through a circuit, often by measuring the small voltage across a known resistance. A voltmeter is a high impedance device that measures the voltage across a circuit. If you were to connect an ammeter as if it were a voltmeter, you would effectively short out the circuit, drastically affecting its operation, and potentially damaging both the circuit and the ammeter.

An ammeter is used for what?

An ammeter is an instrument which is used for measurement of current flowing in any circuit

What instrument is used when performing a high-rate discharge test on a storage battery?

A voltmeter and an ammeter

Difference between galvanometer and voltmeter?

Galvanometer is similiar to ammeter which is used to detect small current through it whereas a voltmeter measures the potential difference in a cicuit..

What happens if an ammeter is connected in parallel and voltmeter connected in series in a circuit?

The voltmeter will register the volts, the ammeter will either explode or blow a fuse since it has a very low resistance and is designed to be used in series to measure the current flowing through it.

What instrument measures voltage in a current?

Resistance is the name given to something which opposes the flow of an electrical current in a circuit and an ohmmeter is used to measure it.The Ohm is the name of the unit used to measure resistance.Further noteThe most common type of instrument used to measure resistance is a multimeter, which includes an ohmmeter, an ammeter to measure the current flow in amps and a voltmeter to measure the potential difference in volts.
