They're he same thing. Atrial flutter is more of a slang term, and is sometimes found in patients with atrial tachycardia. Basically, atrial fibrillation is a disorder, and atrial flutter is a symptom

I had an ablation to correct atrial fibriallation and atrial flutter. Correcting the flutter added an hour to the otherwise 6 hour procedure. They're not the same thing.

In a word - YES.

I have or "had" atrial fibrillation long term for years. I was hopefully cured by an ablation procedure 5 months ago. I had the characteristic erratic heart rate of atrial fibrillation and the steady but fast heart rate of atrial flutter within hours of each other.

The afib seemed to settle down to only atrial flutter after my ablation during the healing process.

I am now afib and atrial flutter free for the past few months.

Be aware atrial flutter will progress to full blown afib if the underlying causes are not treated.
