The best bet is to call some of the places that are doing the hiring and ask them the question. If they say yes, ask what education they are looking for so that if you get the training, it is from a respected school. Remember that the schools are there to sell you the training, so their promise of placement help is not worth much.

"I think it depends on how long ago the conviction was and what it was. The best thing to do is call around and ask a few what their policy is."

That is correct. I have discovered that hospitals require the conviction(s) to be at least 10 years old. Then, depending on the conviction may consider you as an applicant if you have incredible references and a terrific resume. In the past, a felon might have a chance at a tiny community hospital, but these facilities are slowly being bought up by large "corporate hospitals" and adopting the corporate policies. Good luck.

It depends on the crime committed. It's really not the school that decides in most cases I know of, but it is the organization that issues the license or certification. When you apply just answer the questions truthfully. If it brings up a flag, the school may call you in the discuss the matter, which does not mean you would not be accepted, but something to discuss. You can also contact the department chairperson for the program and discuss the issue first. He/she will have a pretty good idea on this issue seeing that they deal with the boards on an on-going basis.
