Naturally, having a system where the priests are not able to experience the the lives lived by normal people will lead to an abnormal situation .

COMMENT TO THE ABOVE:

How can anyone think that a priest not getting married as to abstain from sexual pleasure would make him a "fit" priest? We are all human, and no one is a saint and no one can ever be as HOLY as Jesus Christ. True there are many pastors out there that have been caught or that have been unfaithful to their wives but the number of molested children, boys in particular, by these priest far out numbers the sexual immoralities committed by pastors. Sex is a great part of our lives... it is not everything, but it plays a big role in our lives. Why would GOD want anyone to abstain from having a wife or husband, and sharing in something so beautiful, and having a family like that??? If any man is looking for another man to save him, then he will forever be lost. The only salvation we have is Jesus Christ plain and simple... You have a sin, you need something, GO TO JESUS ... The last time I checked, he is the one who died on the cross for our sins... not the local priest around the corner.. Not to say these men or that all of them are the same but they are simply men (human)... and they have NO POWER to take our sins nor do we need any man to intercede between us and our creator!!! Think about that please

I think priests should be allowed to marry. I do. I feel that if a priest meets another priest and they like each other, then I think they should get married.

The tradition of single priests is Canon law, not a dogma, which means it is not set in stone, and could change. The married priesthood is not unbiblical per se (i.e., Peter was married), but there is much scriptural and historical evidence supporting celibate priests.

There are many pros and cons, but one thing is for sure. The Bible says a family man puts his family first, not the Church. That leads into a huge dilemma if he is a pastor.

Answer:

The need for celibacy varies with the denomination( preist will be taken to mean clergy):

  • In Latin-Rite (Western) Catholic churches, married men can be ordained deacons, but not priests or bishop but cannot marry marriage after ordination.
  • In Eastern Orthodox Churches, and Eastern Catholic Churches (which are in full communion with Rome) married men may be ordained to any order except as bishops but cannot marry after ordination as a subdeacon.
  • Churches of the Anglican Communion have no restrictions on the marriage of deacons, priests, bishops, or other ministers.
  • Almost all Protestant traditions have no restrictions on the marriage of ministers or other clergy
  • In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) tradition has no restrictions on married men or the positions they can hold
  • Judaism has no restrictions regarding the celibacy of its leaders, rabbis or kohens.
  • In Islam marriage is encouraged for everyone.
  • In Buddhism celibacy is required for nuns and monks.
  • If a priest marries then he can't give proper answer to prayers, he ll be worried and enjoyed in his family life. The family life will not allow him to think broad and follow the bible.

So the question must be answered that the prohibition on marriage is not widely applied and is a local deciion by some sects based on their interpretation of traditions and uidance from their god (s) or scriptures.

It depends on what religion. Lutheran priests, for example, may marry. Catholic priests, however, cannot marry. (If a Lutheran priest converted to Catholicism, they would be allowed to remain married)

If married can you be a priest?

In the Roman Catholic Church, it is required that a priest be celibate. This is to keep the priest from being distracted from doing God's will as a priest. However, if an Anglican or Orthodox priest who is married converts to Catholicism he is able to become a Catholic priest and keep his wife. In the Eastern Catholic Church though, the priests are allowed to marry though. Lutheran and Episcopalian Priests are allowed to marry as well.
