The thing about a 17 year old and a 26 year old is the fact that one is a teenager and has no idea who they are and the other is a grown person who should have a life and career and what not. Can it work out? Yes it can but try and put it off for a few years because it's only going to end badly if you don't. Considering the teen is a minor and you an adult you are in trouble right from the start. It's called "statutory rape" in most States. I'd wait a year or so if possible and have a relationship on a more legal basis and let the minor mature more. While there certainly are some 17 years old (very few) that are very mature it still is against the law. I had an aunt that married a man 15 years younger than her and they were married 50 years, so yes, you can make it work. However, she was almost 30 years when she met her husband-to-be. It was frowned upon in those days (not so much so now). I am 4 years older than my husband, but he was 23 at the time. He wasn't a minor and could make up his own mind. I didn't even realize he was 4 years younger than me because he seemed more mature then the men I had been dating who were in their late 20s to 30s.
