Yes this happens in case of area. Usually area is a scalar quantity. But we provide the direction of course perpendicular to its plane area we make it as a vector. Same way though electric current is not a vector it is sensed as vector as we put along with length of conductor. I is scalar but Idl is vector.
Speed is a scalar quantity because it has magnitude but not direction, velocity is a vector quantity because it has magnitude and direction.
Distance is a sclar quantity. A scalar quantity is a magnitude only. A vector has magnitude and direction. Distance AND direction is a vector quantity.
scalar
A vector quantity includes a direction; a scalar does not.A vector quantity includes a direction; a scalar does not.A vector quantity includes a direction; a scalar does not.A vector quantity includes a direction; a scalar does not.
A scalar quantity defines only magnitude, while a vector quantity defines both a magnitude and direction.

scalar
speed has only magnitude but no direction associate to it, if you consider velocity it consists of magnitude along with the direction. Hence speed is considered as a scalar quantity

Scalar quantity is when you have a magnitude but no direction such as speed
A Scalar Quantity has only magnitude whereas a Vector Quantity has magnitude as well as direction.Examples of scalar quantities are time, mass, distance, etc.
Temperature is a scalar quantity. It has magnitude but not direction.
