An XM satellite radio antenna cannot be used as a cell phone antenna as they use a different type of connection. Satellite signals operate on a different frequency from cell phones and use different technologies in their antennas as well.

Is communicating with sattilites is an application of gamma rays?

No. Satellite communication is done with radio waves (and sometimes microwaves). Same stuff that communicates with your cell phone.

What is one example of a radio wave?

-- AM radio -- FM radio -- TV (non-cable) -- TV (satellite) -- police radio -- firetruck radio -- ambulance radio -- sheriff's radio -- highway patrol radio -- taxi radio -- garage-door opener -- pilot's communication -- pilot's navigation -- Blue tooth -- cellphone -- wireless Internet in the house -- iPhone -- Wifi around town -- microwave cooking -- microwave communication -- weather radar -- cellular phone -- GPS signals

What is the message 'CALL' on my 1997 mercury sable radio and How do I get rid of it so the radio will play?

It needs the code. Call, your dealer. That has nothing to do with it. Got to a ford or mercury dealer and they will tell you they no nothing about it. It is the fleet installed cell phone that is causing the problem. Turn the car on, turn the cell phone on, wait a minute, the turn cell phone off. Radio will the work. If you do not still have the cell phone handset, get and hook it up. then do as above says. I had the same problem, and solved the problem by turning cell phone on and the turning it off again.

I have a pocket cell phone case that has a sheet of lead in the lining. Will the lead prevent harmful radio waves from entering my body will the phone take an incoming call?

The simple answer is no. First, Radio waves do absolutely nothing to your health. It is the electromagentic waves that come from the cell phone that "maybee" harmful to your health if you use your cell phone constantly. If you have a lead case around the cell phone it may help but you are better off buying a bluetooth headset which uses even less ectromagentic waves. The real key is to not let your cell phone get so hot, this means that more radiation from your battery and electronic parts are spreading - to your head if it is close to it. At the worst, a hot cell phone can harm human cell tissue, however, there are no known direct cases of any type of cancer from cell phones. What are some natural sources of radio waves?

We generally think of radio waves (radio electromagnetic radiation) as those frequencies of electromagnetic (EM) radiation that fall within a band of frequencies below those of light. These include microwave bands, on which satellites communicate and cell phone operate, as well as the familiar microwave oven. Radar also operates in this band. Below that we find television signals, as well as some two-way radio signals. Other forms of communications radio signals (like amateur or "ham" radio) as well as broadcast radio operate below the television bands. By considering the types of equipment mentioned above, it is possible to make a list of some sources of radio electromagnetic radiation.

What 's the difference between satellite and terrestrial?

IN COMMUNICATIONS: Satellite uses satellite (orbiting) relay-stations in Space but Terrestrial uses cable or antenna-to-antenna signals based entirely on Earth to broadcast your television, radio or cell-phone :) ++++ IN ASTRONOMY: Terrestrial means Earth- (or planet-) bound; a Satellite is any natural or man-made object that orbits a planet. The Moon is a satellite of the Earth.

How can radio waves reach a cell phone if there is no antenna?

There is an antenna, but it's inside the case. (Incidentally, this is the root of the uproar about the iPhone 4's antenna issues. The antenna was on the outside of the phone, causing people to muffle its antenna-ness when holding it tightly.)

Antenna Boosters Increase the Surface for Cell Phone Reception?

Cell phone antenna boosters work much like satellite dishes by helping to capture and emit stronger signals. This, in theory, means stronger and clearer reception. The quality of the boosting antenna, however, is often related to the price of the device. As a passive device, the antenna booster is placed behind the phone's fixed antenna or on the rear surface. Booster antennas provide larger surfaces for cell phones to receive signals from transmitting towers.

What cell phones work at sea?

In coastal areas the cell phone towers on land may cover some distance out to sea, and a normal cell phone may work.Out in the open sea, you would need a satellite or radio phone.

Where can one purchase a satellite cell phone?

There are several places where one can purchase a satellite cell phone from. These places include online shops such as Satellite Phone Store, Mobal, and Telstra.

Will a cell phone antenna improve reception on the road?

The modern dy cell phone really has no need for an external antenna. As the number of cell towers has increased so has the signal strength.

is the cell phone antenna built in to the phone?

Yes. Unless you see the external antenna then it would be built into the phone. Cell phone companies began putting them inside the phone because they were always getting broken on the outside of the phone.

Where might one go to purchase a cell phone antenna?

Cell phone antenna can be purchased at most cell phone and cell phone-related stores both on and offline, as well as at most technology-based stores including Best Buy, Staples, and Office Max.

How does a cellphone repeater work?

A cell phone repeater is a bi-directional amplifier that is used to boost cell phone reception in an area. This is usually done with an antenna, a signal amplifier, and an internal antenna. Cell phone repeaters are also found inside large buildings to help with cell phone signal in a building.

Can you use a mobile phone in space?

Cell phones work by contacting a local station which covers a specific area (a 'cell') the range of these areas is quite small so 23 miles up (the edge of space) its pretty unlikely you will get a signal. A satellite based phone would work sporadically as it needs to 'see' the satellite beam and the beam spreads in a cone from the satellite antenna to cover a 'footprint' on the earths surface - as you get closer to the satellite the beam gets narrower so unless you can arrange to be right under it you will have no contact.
