Though most people suggest using rubbing alcohol to remove acrylic paint from rubber, a less-messy way would be to use a GUM ERASER (like this: michaels.com[slash]generals-gum-eraser[slash]10802793.html). It works very quickly and easily, and all you have to do is pick off balled up pieces of rubber from the eraser, so that you have a clean edge to work with to continue with the paint removal.

∙ 11y agoIf you can't scrape it off or it doesn't just peel off, you'll need a stripper that does not harm the underlying surface. PPG's Duraprep line has a couple that will work well.

Swimming pool paint companies do not recomment mixing paint types rubber goes back on rubber or epoxy back on epoxy So if you want epoxy, sandblast off the rubber. You want to use what's called rubber cement. I know that the name sounds ridiculous but go to any costume store [or art supply store] and ask for it. It comes off real easy and leaves no residue. If you have ever been to Kings Dominion during Halloween, they have these Ninja stars that they put on you and paint it so it looks real. They use rubber cement to attach those.
