I'm not sure, but I think the sportsman has a different barrel configuration. They might be compatible, i say about a 1 in 4 chance of it working. I've never looked at a sportsman pumps barrel, but I've noticed how different model 870 barrels arent always compatible.
if the years of the barrel and sportsman are very far apart, you can lessen the chances of compatibility.
i suggest you email the Remington website and try to get a professional opinion from them.

IT WILL WORK PERFECTLY. BAD INFO. GIVEN ABOVE!
11 - 48 slug barrel
Almost every gun shop worth its salt should have a slug barrel for the remington model 870,if not then they should be able to order one with no problem.
HR Ultra slug for sure.
Hi I took and 870 Barrel and had gas ports drilled into barrel and it works.. I'm not sure that Remington would approve but you might check it out with a gunsmith and get his opinion. Again I did it but that doesn't make it right so I recommend you run it by a gunsmith and see if see a problem.. I did with a slug barrel 20 years ago and have not had any problem.
i have a 12 gauge unrifled barrel 500 model.what type of slug do you reccomend for the mossberg
Remington 870 pump loaded with "OO" buckshot or rifled slug
Is it a sportsmaster .22?? If it is i can tell you.
i have a remington 870 wingmaster its my grandpas and it has 3 barrels the slug , the bird shot barrel and the muzzeloader barrel it takes a 209 primer just like the the regular muzzeloader its very interesting
That is correct.
A shotgun barrel with rifling.
Yes you can. Lead Shot is Lead Shot. I shoot all kinds of different sizes of shot out of my Mossberg and Remington Shotguns. What you do not want to do is shot a slug out of barrel made for shot. Get a rifled barrel for that.
No, as long as you use rifled slugs, sabots are for rifled barrels. Some people will say that a slug will harm a full choke barrel, I have shot them out of a full choke Remington model 10 for years with no damage, I don't think I would do it out of a xx-full choke though.
