This depends on the personality of your fish. Although, your fish may get stressed out if they are in total darkness all of the time. For a fact: bettas hate direct sunlight!! Never put your betta in direct sunlight, even for a short period of time. If you must, put them in the shade.

∙ 15y agoYes, many people place lights above beta tanks and many people place betas among their community fish in planted tanks and to keep live plants in aquariums you need a good strong light above it.

My beta fish Red Fish loves his little lamp on his shelf. I think he is more active at night with his lamp and music on
