High calcium can cause

  1. Skin and eye irritation
  2. Cloudy water
  3. Clogged pool filters
  4. Poor filtration
  5. Calcium build-up and corrosion on heaters
  6. Scaling of the pool water
Really the only way to reduce calcium hardness is to partially drain the pool, 1/3, then refill. It may cause staining but that would be the least of your worries if you had a heater.
