No, that would not be proper. The contact point of a light bulb socket has no need of any coating. A light bulb socket that is difficult to turn a bulb in will benefit from some light oil on the bulb threads prior to installing. Dielectric grease will harden, and is meant to insulate and protect electrical junctions from exposure and vibration.

What is Dielectric grease used for?

It's supposed to be non-conductive yet it transfers heat. Dielectric grease is often used with a heat-sink to transfer the heat better and it can also be used in applications where electrical components might get damp and/or hot and corrode. Most auto manufacturers are using dielectric grease or other grease compounds to protect light sockets and other electrical connections.

Is it okay to use Vaseline on a light bulb to make it easier to put in and get out?

Dielectric grease would be a better choice.

How do you replace the passenger side brake light on a 1996 Chrysler town and country minivan?

Open rear hatch, look at tail light lens, there are two screws in it, take them out, the lens will come out, twist the socket to release it replace bulb. I suggest using some dielectric grease in the socket while you are at it, might save trouble down the road. AJ

How do you clean a corroded tail light socket on a 1998 Malibu?

I often tear off a small amount of plastic scouring pad, the type used in your kitchen to clean the pans, then I work that around inside the socket until the contacts are relatively free from rust and corrosion. After it's clean use an automotive dielectric grease to protect the socket from further corrosion.

How do you change the front turn signal on a 1999 firebird?

Use a 10mm socket to drop cover down in front corner under the car. Reach in and turn light socket assembly 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Pull assembly out and remove old bulb. Put dielectric grease on contacts of new bulb and install.

Why are the Drivers side parking lights out on my jeep Cherokee?

Blown bulb. Reseat the bulb, then test. If fail, replace the bulb, then test. If fail, send service on your headlamps. Also, when you replace a bulb, spray a little electrical contact cleaner in the socket, then apply a light coat of dielectric grease to the bulb base. It'll help prevent future corrosion from moisture. Do not apply a bunch, just a very light coating is all it takes.

What causes brake lights burn out so quick?

A brake light that burns out quickly probably has either a poor connection inside the socket or a bad ground connection. Remove the bulb and check the socket for corrosion. If you find any, clean it. Then apply a small dab of dielectric grease (from any auto parts store) to the socket and reinsert the bulb. If you don't find corrosion, follow the wiring harness to detect where it attaches to a grounding point. Disassemble and clean the metal ground with steel wool. Then apply the same grease and reassemble. That should solve the problem.

How do you replace the front turn signal bulb in a 2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am?

on the underside of the car, just in front of the tires, there is a little hatch-like thing that you open downwards and then you will have access to the back-side of the lights...its hard to reach them in some cases but after toying around with them they will pull out of the light assembly The access panel on the bottom of the car is help in place with 2 bolts. Remove them and pull the panel down and out of the way. Reach your hand up inside and find the wire harness. Follow it to the socket back. There's a locking mechanism on the socket back. Squeeze it and rotate the socket while gently pulling down. When the socket is free it will come down. Pull the bulb out (part number 3157). When replacing the bulb use plenty of dielectric grease. These sockets (for some stupid reason) install perpendicular to the ground instead of parallel making them nice water entrapment areas. Also check the lens cover for cracks, replace if cracked. Seal the seat of the socket where it contacts the light bodies housing with RTV or dielectric grease. Remove the lens cover and put a bead of RTV or dielectric grease on it's mating surface and reinstall. I used to go through bulbs every couple of months and haven't had a problem since doing this.

Is it hazzardous to turn a light on and off by just loosening it from the socket?

Switching light on/off through loosening from socket is not advisable. Light bulb can reach at temperature between 200-260 degrees Celsius and it can be hazardous in physical contact.

What do you do if tail light keeps burning out?

It's probably moisture that's causing the problem. Next time you replace the bulb, try coating the connectors with dielectric grease. If that doesn't help, then there might be a short somewhere in the circuit.

What could be the problem with your s10s taillights?

S-10 tail lights are notoriously faulty and it is a manufacturing as well as a product problem. The sockets tend to become rusty or loose impeeding contact of vital parts of the bult and socket and thus creating a fault. The bulb may be good and everything else, but it is just dirty or loose. Clean the socket or replace it and use electrical grease when replacing the light bulb into the clean or new socket.

How do you replace brake lights in 1994 Nissan 300zx?

Remove brake light interior trim panels. Then you push and twist the socket for the brake light that needs replacing. Then pull out socket. then pull out bulb from socket and place new bulb in the light socket. Once bulb is installed into light socket. Place the socket where you removed it from brake light housing. Push and twist clockwise to lock back in place. Then replace trim panels.
