You can, but it is advisable to use Salmon Oil instead of Cod Liver oil, as this contains a high level of Vitamin A which can be harmful if fed too much.

Salmon oil is a fish oil that a dog can benefit greatly from. You can also add a weekly treat of oily fish such as sardines or mackerel (best in spring water) as this will have the same effect.

Salmon oil contains omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. It is the omega 3 fatty acids that are so valuable in salmon oil. Salmon oil helps improve coat and skin quality and lubricate joints, which an elderly dog may benefit greatly from.

Generally it's a pain to give tablets/capsules to animals. If you want an easier way to get fish oils into your pet's system, generally I've found that putting down about a tablespoon of human-grade canned salmon (on a side-dish) once a day for a medium-size pet is enough to improve coat and health. You can also switch over to a fish-based kibble (Orijen 6-Fish, or Diamond's Taste Of The Wild Pacific Salmon). They're more expensive, but I found the dogs are eating less and in much better health overall. No corn, soy, or wheat ingredients - they caused too many issues, and once they were eliminated from the diet, I saw changes within a very short time. Shed less, scratch less, eat less, and poop less.

Salmon oil can be found in most health shops and can be added to the dog's meals a couple of times a week. Only a small amount are needed each time.

It is not ideal. Cod Liver Oil is very high in Vitamin A, which in larger doses can harm the cat.

Salmon Oil does the exact same thing as cod liver oil in the way it promotes healthy skin, fur and joints. Salmon oil is made from the whole fish and not just the fish's liver, ensuring the nutrients and fatty acids are much more balanced.

Is good in small amounts, however, Salmon Oil is better as the vitamins are more balanced than in cod liver oil. It does similar to what it does for people!

Are cod liver oil liquid and cod liver oil tablets the same?

They both contain cod liver oil. However, cod liver oil in the capsule form can be considered as pure cod liver oil, while cod liver oil in the liquid form usually contains flavourings, otherwise it would be rather disgusting to eat. So the percentage of cod liver oil in the capsule form is higher.
