Can dogs die from eating marijuana?

I have a 6lb Malti-poo and he ate a Brownie and a half of weed brownies and they each had approximately 2 grams of weed in them. After being stoned and out of it and a $350.00 trip to the vet, he recovered...barely. DON'T DO THIS TO YOUR DOGS IT's TORTURE. He couldn't stand straight or keep his balance, he was in a coma like state for more than 24 hours. After 24 hours I took him to the vet and he was severely dehydrated. They gave him fluids all night and all the next day to bring him back to homeostasis. His eyes went back in his head, his tongue was out of his mouth, and he was un responsive and I had to take him to the emergency vet. This will cost you money and put you through emotional hell.

THC is toxic for dogs and cats. It's more common in dogs. Look up toxicity, dogs & marijuana.

In dogs, clinical signs develop within 30-90 minutes after ingestion and even faster with smoke. The effects of the THC may last up to 72 hours.

The most common clinical signs of toxicosis in the dog include:

- nervous depression(usually appearing as if the dog was falling asleep)

- ataxia(gross lack of coordination of muscle movements)

- bradycardia (slow heart rate)

- hypothermia (low body temperatures)

- vocalization(usually hallucinations with barking or agitation)

- mydriasis(dilated eyes)

- muscular incoordination

- respiratory depression

- hypersalivation

- vomiting

- diarrhea

- urinary incontinence

- seizures

- coma

- hyperreflexia(exaggeration of the reflexes)

- hyperesthesia (increased sensation in the nerves of the skin)

- nystagmus (rotation of the eyes)

Death is uncommon, but can happen. Remember to keep your stash, roaches, edibles, etc out of reach of your pets or in a container. Blowing smoke at dogs & cats should also be avoided.

If symptoms seem severe, take them to a vet, especially if noticed within a half hour.

I know a dog who has gone into seizure twice from eating materials. The next day he's usually okay and after a few days he's back to normal. Hopefully your dog won't or doesn't eat any, or at least a very small amount which isn't too devastating.

Nope. It's a plant. Dogs eat grass (like the stuff on your lawn) and don't get sick (usually.. but that's got pesticides sprayed on it, too)

If you're planning on blowing smoke in its face, that won't really hurt him either (because its just smoke, from a plant) but I don't think he'll like it very much. less that's some good weed :D

I once knew a cat who would eat his owner's stash when she left it out.. and another who would magically appear every time his lit up in the house. less experience with dogs, but, all animals seek out mind altering substances. The sheep in Jamaica like to eat the marijuana plants that grow naturally there. they get all giddy & hop around more after they eat it. Those are some happy sheep.

Moreover, if it won't hurt you, it certainly can't kill your dog.

Yes a dog can die from ingesting marijuana. If you believe your dog has ingested marijuana then immediately take him to an emergency clinic. They will drug test your dog and give him the medication to possibly reverse the poisoning. Sometimes the dog may die however. Vet clinics use a policy of privacy similar to medical clinics for people so there should not be a reason for a pet owner to keep silent on drugs their dog may have ingested.

The vet won't call the police or get you in trouble and he may be able to prevent your dog from suffering serious illness.
