With uncontrolled Diabetes mellitus, glucose concentration in the blood is high (hyperglycemia) and reabsorption of glucose by the kidneys will be incomplete. Therefore, some glucose will stay in the urine. The presence of glucose increases osmotic pressure of the urine and as a result, the kidney does not retain the water for the body's use, but releases it and in doing so increases urine production.

Yes. But it can also be a sign of other conditions, such as an enlarged prostrate or prostatitis in men, and urinary tract infection in both genders. Anyone with frequent urination should see a physician to find out the cause of it and take a treatment in time. Frequent urination caused by urinary and reproductive system diseases can be treated with antibiotics or herbal medicine called diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill.

An individual with type 1 or type 2 diabetes has such high blood glucose levels that the kidneys cannot reabsorb all the glucose; some glucose is lost in urine. Because the urine contains high concentrations of glucose, less water can be reclaimed by osmosis, so the volume of urine production increases. The water losses reduce blood volume and elevate blood osmotic pressure, promoting thirst and triggering the secretion of ADH

When the blood glucose level of a patient with diabetes exceeds 180-200 mg/dL, excess amounts of glucose are lost in the urine. This has a diuretic effect, which means that as the glucose is excreted into the urine, water will follow, resulting in a higher volume of urine that is produced. It is common for patients who have high blood glucose levels to experience the need to urinate very frequently, especially at night.

High blood sugar and thirst are two common symptoms of diabetes. However, some people might not realize that frequent urination also is a diabetes symptom. As a person's blood become saturated with glucose, or blood sugar, the blood's cells become full of excess water. The body tries to flush out this water and the excess glucose by drawing it out through the kidneys. As the kidneys filter out this excess, people have to urinate more.
