As they originally come for the desert, they can survive in hot environments, but not really hot and should note placed in sunlight or near radiators as it can give them heat stroke. They also need plenty of water and shade.

Yes, they can. You can prevent this by keeping the tank out of direct sunlight.

What do gerbils need to drink?

Blood

How the gerbil is adapted to its environment?

The gerbil lives in a desert environment. They get most of their water from their food but still need water to drink. They can stand heat. They won't pee a lot because they can't waste water in the desert. Gerbils need exercise because they move fast. Also they need to chew. Like all rodents gerbils teeth grow quickly and they need to wear them down. Gerbils tails, kind of like lizards, will break at the tip. If you grab the very end of a gerbils tail, it will break off with a lot of blood so as to distract their predator. Unfortunately, it will not grow back. This will not harm the gerbil, only help them if they're in danger.

What do gerbils do in the desert?

Gerbils are naturally from the desert, so they do anything else a wild animal should do. They burrow underground to prevent desert heat and predators. They make nests out of most things they could find (dried grass, etc). Gerbils hunt for bugs and eat roots and seed. They are pack animals, so they live in clans. Gerbils are diurnal, which means they sleep on and off between activities.

How do gerbils get their food?

If their in the wild, they hunt it. If they are owned by someone you give them food. In the wild gerbils dig up roots or forage for seeds. But if they are domestic/pets then you will need to give them food.
