No, it's called good parenting. Knowing what your child is up to can prevent a lot of problems later on.

Not necessarily good parenting because it causes relationship problems between parent and child, but is helpful in some serious situations. Still, it is not illegal for PARENT'S to invade your privacy. When you are 18, feel free to do whatever you want. Until then... obey your parents.

Can your parents search your room legally without your consent if you are 16?

Yes. It is their home and you are their child. They are responsible for your acts, legal and illegal, and have the right to any place within their home. You might make the argument that it violates your right to privacy. However, as a minor, you have not right to privacy that is not derived from your parent's right to privacy. Their right trumps yours.

Why do you have to be 13 or older to use Facebook?

It has to do with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). Facebook, along with most other US based websites, do not allow those under the age of thirteen to register with them as the information collected from them must be secured in a different manner from those over thirteen. Information can be given out but permission has be to received from a parent or guardian. Many sites choose simply to ban under thirteen's due to the legal issues it may present.
