No, it is not the actual loom bands that are a danger. The charms that come with them are though, they have phthalates which make the plastic pliable. The European Union has a limit of 0.1% but they are using up to 45%, even ones which are said to be scientifically tested and safe.

∙ 9y agoThe authentic original "Rainbow Loom" sold under that brand name has been carefully tested to very exacting standards and does NOT increase the risk of cancer. If you buy the authentic "Rainbow Loom" through Amazon or any other retail source, you can be assured of its safety. Fears about cancer have been circulating because some "knock-off" rubber band looms, made under similar but different brands have not be tested and cannot be relied upon to be entirely safe.
