Yes. It is best to keep them in the same gender unless you want breeding. Gerbils are very social creatures, unlike hampsters. The most common set of pet gerbils is 2 of the same gender.
There are 3 things you want to look for when buying gerbils as pets for them to get along:
-Be the same gender
-Get them from the same litter(not required, but if you don't do this, do option 3)
-Being with each other since birth
Answer Maybe Gerbils & rats are *both* Omnivores & both are social animals when introduced to others properly. The biggest concerns are the size differential and inproper introduction. Most people will say no, but the truth is it depends on the rat and the gerbil. I have a rat and gerbil that live together and nest together. I rotated their living space about 4 times a week until they were used to each others scent and began short introduction sessions. Every time I watched them and increased the amount of time they spent together if it went well. If they started to fight even a little I separated them and tried again another day. Eventually they nested together and have been friendly ever since. They have lived together happily and un-harmed for over a year now. Rats are OMNIVORES that means they eat meat along with grain and other plant life. A rat could very easily kill a gerbil if it wanted to. Never put a rat with a gerbil.
Generally mice and rats will not get along, as the rat will most likely kill and possibly eat the mice. This is due to natural instinct
No.... I would not recommend it.
Neither. Like mice and rats, they are rodents, but they are only distantly related to mice and rats.
Mice and rats are in the order Rodentia along with porcupines, squirrels, beavers, gerbils, guinea pigs, and hamsters
mice like cheese. rats dont.
Mice and Rats are rodents.
Yes domestic mice can get along with white footed mice. Typically any mouse can get along with another mouse, even if they're different breeds. Just keep in mind that RATS and MICE DO NOT GET ALONG. The rat(s) will kill and eat the mice. Same with guinea pigs and mice. The guinea pig WILL get attacked by mice and have no defense against them. They cannot use their front paws or teeth. Hope I helped. :)
they eat rats, mice, and anything in the mouse selected:)

No, mice and rats are two different species. Rats have rat babies, mice have mouse babies.
cats chase mice because rats and mice like to run. that makes themexcited
I have both. I breed rats for pet & show, mice I don't breed at all.
Rats will not tolerate mice living by them. Rats will kill mice.
Yes! Mice, rats, and beavers are rodents.
