It will really mess up the fuel mileage, and driveability
Replace catalytic converter
Yes.
About $80.00.
"Positive Crankcase Ventilation" Catalytic converter burns up oil smoke sucked out of the engine from the PCV.
Take it to Midas Muffler.
You can remove it and put a pipe there, or you can remove the exhaust pipe and drive a piece of pipe through it if it's clogged up, but beware of the EPA laws. The check engine light will stay on if you remove the converter and the vehicle will not run correctly. It is illegal to remove a catalytic converter.
i got estimate of 600 $
No. It's illegal.
Top left of the catalytic converter (directly in front of the engine (by the bumper), under the heat shield).
All O2 sensors (AKA Air/Fuel sensors) are threaded into the exhaust system. Some before the catalytic converter (upstream) and some after the catalytic converter (downstream).
Check your catalytic converter.
You could have breaks in your PCV hose, like we had, and all the oil residue is not being sent to the Catalytic Converter, or you have abused the engine and your rings are shot. Take it to a trusted mechanic for a free estimate.
