2 stroke engines are not widely used on street bikes because of the vibration, It makes for a shaky bike and the sudden spurts of power are somewhat undesireable.

Since the majority of 2 stroke engines are meant for off road use it is a matter of necessity to have a kick start. If you are out riding in the woods or desert which is where the bike is meant to be a dead battery or faulty starter would mean hours of pushing to get to a road, the kick start eliminates that huge hassle.
