Why is your ps3 not signing into psn?

Age could be a factor as the Playstation Network Support says (see related link)

Sub Accounts will be created based on the age of the account holder. Users under 18 will automatically be creating a sub account. Sub Accounts must be created in association with a Master Account.

See the related link it has a video on creating the account on a PS3. If you are creating the account with your parents name and birthday and email address make sure you get them right. The information could be needed at another time or when the password has been lost or forgotten. You must be over 18 to have a Playstation Master account and Sub accounts can only be created under a master account.

I found that the network has been working slow on 3/3/11 the date of your question. This may be because of all the activity from downloads and purchases of Call of Duty Black Ops First Strike. The large number of users downloading the new Map Packs may be overloading the system. Try an off peak hour to access your account management and see if that solves your problem

It is not signing you in because PSN is undergoing Maintenance. This means they are trying to get rid off hackers from PSN. It is a likely chance that this will happen to you when you get a brand new PS3, but its will do it for about 1 day max. It will not just happen to you, it happens to everyone.

To connect to the Playstation Network you must have an internet service provider that you pay a monthly fee for and then you must also have a modem or router and other hardware to allow WiFi or Ethernet Connection and finally you must set up the device for the internet connection
