Absolutely! It can spasm and cause bile to back up. The pain in intense and sharp usually radiating to the back.
The sphincter of Oddi regulates the passage of pancreatic juices and bile into the duodenum of the small intestine.

It's Welsh for 'from'. I.e. at the end of a letter or card you would write 'oddi wrth John'.

The hepatopancreatic sphincter is located at the junction of the hepatopancreatic ampulla and the duodenum.small intestineThe Sphincter of Oddi (the Hepatopancreatic Sphincter) is located in the second part of the duodenum. The Sphincter of Oddi is located in the second part of the duodenum. This Hepatopancreatic Sphincter controls the flow of pancreatic and bile fluids. It was named after the Ruggero Oddi the anatomist who first despcribed it.I am going to go out on a limb and guess that it is located in the pancreas?
Yes it increases pressure in the sphincter of oddi causing attacks. This can vary among individuals though. Some people do ok with certain narcotics and some people can not have any with this dysfunction.
The sphincter of Oddi (hepatopancreatic sphincter), controls the release of pancreatic enzymes and bile into the duodenum. During digestion, intestinal phase signals stimulate the release of bile.
Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction Septo-Optic Dysplasia (congenital malformation
It closes the common opening of the bile ducts and pancreatic duct and so helps to regulate digestion.
Protease is an enzyme made in the pancreas and delivered to the small intestine through the oddi sphincter.
yes!! any opiate-based pain meds contract a sphincter (the sphincter of Oddi) that allows bile into the small intestine to aid with digestion. Most imaging centers/hospital require that no pain meds are to be given 4-6 hours prior to a HIDA scan. However, morphine is used as an interventional drug DURING an abnormal HIDA scan. After 60 minutes of imaging, if the gallbladder is not visualized, morphine can be used to contract the same sphincter mentioned above to cause a back pressure of bile flow and "trick" the gallbladder into filling with the radiolabled bile.
