You shouldn't take any medicine if you don't need it. Also why would you be taking depression medicine if you don't have depression? You need to talk to your doctor about why you are taking it, and if you really need it or not.

When should a person seek professional help with feelings of anxiety and depression?

If a person is depressed or anxious for more than two or three weeks they should see their doctor and discuss their problem. Your doctor will decide if you need to seek psychiatric help and may give you a prescription for the depression on a short-term basis. It generally takes four to six weeks for the antidepressant to work to it's full peak. Anxiety and depression is high on the list of bothersome symptoms and really took a high curve after 9/11. With the financial; job and world news stress happening now there are thousands upon thousands of people that are depressed, but some not clinically depressed (where they are depressed for the rest of their lives without medication.)

What is the difference between stress and depression?

In one sentence, stress is one of the main causes of depression. Being under stress causes many negative psychological reactions which lead to the depressive condition. The difference between a person who is not depressed and one who is depressed is that the person without depression are able to bounce back from the effects of the stressful situations once they have stopped. On the contrary, the depressed individual will continue to wallow in the negative emotions even once the stressors are no longer there. With stress as a contributing cause, it would be a stressor that was present over a prolonged period of time that would cause the depression.

Is there a self healing cure without medication for depression?

This will depend upon the cause of the depression. Some individuals with moderate to severe depression have a degree of biochemical changes in their brains causing the depression that they do really need the medications to manage their symptoms. However, individuals with mild to moderate depression may be able to "pull themselves out" of the depression with intensive therapy and support. I believe it is rather rare for someone with clinical depression (as opposed to just "feeling down" for a while) to self-cure without therapy or medication - it can probably be done, but it is very difficult because you have to challenge the mental assumptions and thought patterns that have resulted in the depression in the first place.
