Can the sentence on an alford plea be appealed or reconsidered in the state of La?
I strongly suggest you consult an attorney before considering it. Are you certain you want to run that risk? It was YOU that offered the Alford plea. You had the option of going to trial - but obviously chose not to.
In order of their importance: Circuit Courts - Courts of Appeals - State Supreme Court. The CIRCUIT COURT tries all state-level criminal and civil cases. Their actions and verdicts can be appealed to the COURT OF APPEALS - the actions of the Court of Appeals can be appealed to the STATE SUPREME COURT.
There is no where else to appeal to. The United States Supreme Court is the highest court of the land. When cases are appealed, they're appealed to a higher court. Hence, if a case started in a standard state court, it would be appealed to the state appellate court. If it were appealed a second time, it would be heard by the state's supreme court.
