Driving your van will lead you to hear excessive engine noise because you're virtually sitting on the thing, with limited insulation for engine noise. I hear all kinds of things in my 97 conversion. When traveling at highway speeds and especially if there was a gusty wind, I would hear an intermittent high-pitched noise coming from somewhere in the front of the passenger compartment. After poking around a bit, I discovered that the sliding air vent door near the front-left of the driver's side floor was open a crack. It took some work to get it fully closed, but once I did, I've never heard the noise again.
