Depends what game and gametype. in MW3, MW2, cod 4, and black ops, when you are waiting to respawn in hardcore Team deathmatch or search and destroy, you can look at your allies in a 3rd persoin view by pressing Y (for xbox that is). For MW2, there is a gamemode where you can play in 3rd person, but it gets frusterating.

∙ 14y agoTeam tacictical is now played in 3rd person, along with a few other game modes, but team tactical is the only one that is only 3rd person.

∙ 12y agoOn multiplayer, there are certain 3rd person game types such as '3rd person hardcore' or something like that. It will be in the name when choosing what type of game to pick.
