Assuming you mean on an IBM compatible with IDE drives???

The ribbon cable should have two connectors on one end and one connector on the other. The single end should be plugged into the motherboard or disk controller. The OTHER end should be plugged in to the two hard drives. MAKE SURE YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THE ORIENTATION OF THE PLUGS!!!

The boot disk drive should have the jumpers set to "master", and the second disk drive should be jumpered as "slave". Next, just connect the power to both drives and you're ready to go.

UNFORTUNATELY...

there are many newer motherboards that only have a single IDE socket. That becomes a problem when you need to connect a CD/DVD. With a single IDE socket you can connect a hard drive and a CD/DVD, but not a second hard drive.

You'll need to check your hardware to see what you have.

If your computer uses the somewhat newer/faster SATA drive, you should have 2 SATA ports on your motherboard. Plug a cable into each, and a drive into each cable. Note that not all motherboards will have 2 SATA ports, so you may need to purchase a SATA multiplier.

Yes you can connect two hard disks easily. e.g. on the same IDE/ATA bus you can connect two hard disks as master and slave.

If you have four available connectors, yes.

If you mean four SATA hard drives then you will need 4 spare SATA ports/slots on your motherboard which you just plug in from the motherboard to the first hard drive with a SATA cable. Do the same for the other three.

Now for the power connectors, you need the four SATA power connectors or four spare molex cables. They can use either. And they need to be connected.

If you have them, then connect them up and its done.

If you don't have the power connectors you will need a new PSU (Power Supply) with enough connectors for what you need.

If you don't have the SATA ports of your motherboard, but you have the SATA drives, then a new motherboards is needed.

There is the older IDE drives which are slower but still can be used. Its the same cables as the ones to your Disc Drives if there not SATA, they look flat and are often grey coloured.

Then you would need to buy one which can connect to your IDE hard drive port on your motherboard and which splits off to four ends, which your hard drives can be connected to.

These type drives use the molex power connectors..
