I was told by my doctor not to drink alcohol with this medication. I was told to avoid sugar and sugar substitutes while on the medication. I assume the one of the reasons not to drink alcohol is because of the sugars in it. Sugar is what the bacteria feeds on that we're trying to get rid of with the medication.
