Depends on your target carbohydrate consumption for the day. One medium banana has a little under 30 grams of carbs, and low carbohydrate diets range from no carbs (ketogenic in nature) to 150 grams a day. If you're doing a ketogenic diet or Atkins diet induction phase most/all fruit are out of the question.

Yes, you could if you wanted to, but banana is not usually eaten on a low carbohydrate diet because it's one of the high carbohydrate fruits.

There are:

  • 35-36 grams of carbohydrate in one large banana (8" to 9" long)
  • 23 grams of carbohydrate in one small banana (6" long)
  • 27 grams of carbohydrate in one medium banana (7" to 8" long)

20 to 60 grams of carbohydrate per day is the usual total allowance for a low carbohydrate diet.

However, if you have a degree of insulin resistance you would start at 20 grams of carbohydrate
daily.

Many, many overweight people, or people who gain weight very easily, or people who have great difficulty losing weight, or people who have repeatedly dieted over many years, are insulin resistant, or have a degree of insulin resistance (often without being aware of it). If so, even one small banana would blow what could be your whole allowance for that day. Moreover, one average sized banana would exceed what could be your whole allowance for that day.

Even on a 60-gram allowance of carbohydrate, one large banana would blow half your carbohydrate allowance for that day.

There are better fruit carbohydrate bargains to be had, such as low carbohydrate berries.
