Yes, definitely. Several prescription drugs will produce 'false positives'.

Some active ingredients of pharmaceuticals (medicine, drug) are chemically very similar to illegal drugs (although different in their effect). A standard drug test can not distinguish between, e.g. amphetamine and Ritalin or several cough medicines and heroin etc.

If you are on a presciption drug, best to take a medical certificate with you when taking a drug test.

False negatives are extremely rare. There are practically no prescription drugs that will make a drug test show 'negative' (clean), when otherwise it should show a positive ('gotcha').

Btw. stories about accelerating detox are myths, the procedures are either ineffective or even dangerous. Modern drug tests also test for abnormally high or low levels of components of clean, healthy, adults' urine. "Hey Mr. Doe. Congrats, your test's negative - but it also confirms that you're a pregnant Buffalo low on electrolytes".

Many employers won't hire a person that has a prescription for xanax or pain killers simply because they are a liability. They don't have to hire anyone, so if someone else has a clean test, they are more likely to get hired. The best bet is to stay clean if possible for best results
