THE NUMBER IS A PRODUCTION NUMBER NOT A MODEL NUMBER. I HAVE USED THAT NUMBER TO IDENTIFY PARTICULAR GUNS IN MY COLLECTION BUT, I AM NOT CERTAIN IT CAN BE CALLED A SERIAL NUMBER EITHER.
By listing your serial number, and the model number with the caliber your shotguns was chambered in.please include this in your question.
Serial numbers were not required at that time.
Depending on the model, Savage/Stevens/Springfield/Marlin etc etc. If you go to gunpartscorp.com. scroll down to bottom left, select cross reference, you can check your Coast to Coast model number, and match to original maker and model.

smaller the number, the smaller the caliber.
Caliber can not be determined by serial number.
It would be in 36 caliber or 44 caliber...
If you will tell us exactly how the company name is marked, we can probably place it within 10-15 years. *J. Stevens and Co. - 1864-1886 *J. Stevens Arms and Tool Co (or A&T Co) - 1886-1916 *J. Stevens Arms Co - 1920-1942 *Stevens (or Stevens / Savage) - 1942-1991 (but with no serial number, before 1969) The Stevens name was revived in the late 1990s, but so far only on updated versions of the single shot Favorite and Ideal models. Stevens models 066, 086, and 66 are the only listings in the Standard Catalog for tube-fed bolt-action 22s. Are any of these numbers marked on the barrel or receiver? The exact model doesn't matter much as all the bolt-action 22s are listed under the same entry for $25 in poor condition and $150 in excellent condition.
What's the year of my Stevens? Serial number p116495
The phone number of the Lake Stevens Historical Museum is: 425-334-3944.
All I can give you is a guess since you didn't bother to include any information beyond maker, model and caliber. Range 100-500
You can contact the Stevens Historian, Mr John Callahan, 53 Old Quarry Road, Westfield, MA 01085. Send him all the markings and your daytime phone number. His charge is $15 to research a gun.
The Riverside model number will be identical to the Stevens number.
Stevens Arms was an American firearms manufacturer founded by Joshua Stevens in 1864 and then bought by Savage Arms in 1920 but still retained the Stevens brand on a number of its low cost rifles and shotguns. The most common and notable of these is the Stevens Model 416 .22 caliber bolt action rifle that carries the long rifle round. A large number of these were supplied to the U.S. military as training rifles. Because these were very common and cheap to manufacture, they might not fetch a valuable price in a collector's point of view.

I have one (J Stevens 22 "Favorite" 22LR) and I am going to be selling it. Are you looking to buy one or do you just need pics of one or ? ? This one is a hex barrel (removable once the pin on the bottom is unscrewed) in very good condition. All original. Serial number appears to be either 806 or 908 (depending on which way you have the gun facing).
Virtually impossible to determine caliber by just the serial number.
Do you mean "Shotgun"? Stevens didnt make a shotgun model 44. Perhaps it's a rifle? Stevens made a Model 44 single shot Rifle valued from $250 to $600 in mint condition depending on caliber.

The "U" prefix on the serial number means it was made in 1961.
No way of knowing without a serial number /model number to identify what type of .410 gauge stevens you have.
