BUT, be aware, it actually uses a lot more computer resources, ram, video, etc, then most people think.
It LOOKS like a cheap older game but it brings a lot of entry level or older computers to their knees. Make sure you know YOUR computer can play it. Especially when you start using any mods or texture packs.

∙ 12y agoNo, you do not need Windows 7 to play Minecraft. Minecraft works on any Windows computer XP and up. Minecraft is also built to work on Mac OS X and Lunix.

I think it has something to do with the architecture being x64 and not x86, not really positive though. Having the same problem on Windows 7 64bit, but it works fine on Windows 7 32bit.
