The worms you see in rice are not parasitic worms. The ones in the rice are larva of storage pest insects. If you don't know they are there, they probably would not make you ill since you cook the rice - unless you have Allergies to insects. Many people can't cope psychologically with bugs in food, and would become ill just at the thought of having consumed one.

I have never heard of anyone getting sick from eating them and they are extremely common - in rice, floor, pasta, oats... etc. Mum always used to say they are extra protein...lol.

Can dogs get sick from eating rice?

Dogs can not eat anything humans eat. They will not DIE, but it is not ideal to make them eat it. My dog once was in the garage and opened the bag and there was rice, she survived, but had little burps. As if her body was not meant to eat that. Don't worry, dogs can live with a TINY of rice. Some dog foods have rice in as a basic so don't worry about it. Never give a dog chocolate unless it is doggy chocs as it is like poison to them.

Can you get sick from eating worms?

If you are talking about common earth worms, probably not sick from them directly but from the germs that may be on them. It depends on where the worms are kept or are living. The earth worm itself won't make you sick, in fact they are cooked and regularly eaten and enjoyed in some societies, but the compost or other soil they live in may be a problem if the worms are eaten raw since that may be a source of contamination. If it is not earth worms that you are talking about, then yes, some worms are parasitic in humans and other mammals and can make you very sick. Dogs and other pets can be infected with these worms and, if you suspect a child ate a worm other than a common earth worm, then you should consult a health care professional. Take one of the worms in a baggy to them when you see them so they can identify the specific type. Don't touch with bare hands and wash your hands well after handling.
