Power of attorney is an extremely valuable estate planning tool. The power of attorney is an authorization you give to someone in order make decisions on your behalf when you become incapable of doing so because of injury or some other circumstance. You can have a power of attorney and appoint alternates for the position or you can have three that would need to come to a consensus. Having two may cause problems if they handle the same issues, however it is possible and something to discuss with your estate planning attorney.

Yes, and sometimes it is advisable. The power of attorney only covers healthcare and its related decisions, whereas the durable power covers just about everything else, especially financially related. A close family member or friend who has strong financial knowledge could certainly be an appropriate choice for the durable power, whereas someone more attuned to medical issues could be better for the healthcare power. In many situations, however, it may be a lot easier for one person to serve as both.

Of course, you can. The PoA may be limited or general. You can name more than one person to be your proxy if you want. It is fairly risky to assign general PoA to anybody because that person can sign anything that you yourself can.

There are two major power of attorney documents.

1. General

2. Medical

You can have both of those active at the same time. If you have two of the same type on one person, it is redundant and the last one that is valid is the one that is curent.

Yes. But it needs to be carefully written to state whether you want the agents to work together, separately, or in succession.
