Migraine can be episodic - lasting less than 3 days, occurring 14 or fewer times per month.

Migraine can be chronic - lasting less than 3 days, occurring 15 or more days per month.

Migraine can be intractable - it doesn't respond to appropriate medication. (Opioids are not considered appropriate medicine and do not help to abort the Migraine process. They can in fact make the situation actually worse.) Many medicines can be given via IV, and it's impossible to tell if you received anything truly helpful from your question.

Severe Migraines lasting longer than 3 days may be Status Migraine which can be an emergency.

The emergency room is one of the worst places for Migraineurs. Instead, seek the help of a headache specialist who is uniquely qualified to diagnose, treat and prevent Migraine and other headache disorders. A Migraine may last many days, but there are over 100 different headache disorders, so appropriate diagnosis is important for a good outcome.

What neurotransmitter creates migraines?

Because we still do not know the exact pathogenesis of Migraine, and several neurotransmitters play a part in the Migraine attack, I'm not sure how to answer your question. Serotonin is most frequently blamed for Migraine attacks, however the complete answer is much more complicated than that.

How migraine begins?

When migraine causes paralysis, numbness, or weakness to an extremity - the problem does not normally last past the head pain. If it does, the patient may have had a stroke. What is a silent migraine?

A "silent headache" or "silent migraine" (also called ocular migraine or acephalgic migraine), is a type of migraine where the only phase of the migraine not experienced is the head pain phase. So, this person can experience mood changes, nausea and vomiting, visual disturbances, balance issues, dizziness, and numbness - but will not have the severe pain which is associated with these types of headaches. While it is wonderful to not experience debilitating pain, this does not mean this type of migraine is not debilitating. Many of the symptoms still experienced can leave the sufferer unable to function during many of their usual daily activities. These types of migraines are still treated by the same medications used to treat other types of migraines.

Is migraine with aura a common migraine?

That depends if you are asking about the medical term or if it is a type of migraine that occurs frequently. There are two main categories of migraine. The term "common migraine" is an antiquated term that refers to migraines without aura. This term "common migraine" is no longer accepted in the International Headache Society's ICHD II which is used to diagnose headache disorders. Some older physicians who are not familiar with headache medicine may still use this term because they are not aware of the change in terminology. "Classic migraines" is an antiquated term that refers to migraines with aura. This term "classic migraine" is no longer accepted in the International Headache Society's ICHD II which is used to diagnose headache disorders. Some older physicians who are not familiar with headache medicine may still use this term because they are not aware of the change in terminology. "Common migraines" occur more frequently than migraines with aura, but up to 30% of migraine sufferers experience migraines with aura. People who experience migraines with aura may still end up experiencing a "common migraine" sometime during their lifetime. For appropriate diagnosis, treatment and prevention of headache disorders, seek the help of a board certified headache specialist.

Why does the weather cause a migraine?

A sudden rise and/or drop in barometric pressure could cause a migraine because or the fact that your body needs to adjust to the change and the faster the change - the faster your body needs to react. It is critical for people with migraine headaches to maintain a balance, and sometimes their bodies have a hard time adjusting to changes around them. It is also because a change in weather can cause allergies to flare up and trigger a migraine.

Do you need to worry that the Aura you get with a classical migraine has lasted for over 3 hours?

Migraine auras do not usually last long than a couple of hours. In some people, however, auras can drag on persistently. Rarely, they can last for weeks. It is important to get checked out by a doctor to make sure nothing more serious is going on. If you doctor determines that there is no cause for concern, you may still wish to discuss the possibility of getting on a preventative regimen for migraine. Even if you are not experiencing the pain of the migraine, and only other neurological symptoms, the fact is that your brain is still experiencing the nerve activity associated with migraine. This is not a type of nerve activity you want your brain to become accustomed to, as it will become easier and easier to trigger migraines.
