Yes, One could have a very serious infection without having a fever. If it hurts and the area is swollen or red... go to a doctor. I am starting week 4 of recovering from an infection that made it almost impossible for me to walk for over a week and the wounds have been very hard to heal and I still can't walk normally... I never had a temperature above normal and sometimes was even slightly below normal.
