They used to say that it would cause birth defects due to inbreeding. They have found that the chance of having a child born with birth defects among first cousins is a lot less than they thought. It is only about 1 to 2 percent more likely than between two people that have no relations. The odds go down even less with second cousins.

∙ 14y agoMost people would considered a second cousin to be only distantly related. In many countries even marriage between first cousins is legal. So yes, as long as one of you is male and the other is female, you can legally have children together.
