The engine will not run properly with the converter removed and the check engine light will not go off and cannot be turned off as it will just come back on. The ECU will try to adjust the fuel/air mixture to compensate for the missing converter which will hurt economy not help it. The fine is $2,500 if you are caught. Install a converter back on your car ASAP.
