no, the system is only compatible with blue rays, not CDs or DVDs, although original 60GB systems do work with PS2 games.
Not true about the system it can play CDs DVDs and Blue ray discs like all Blue Ray Players. It also can play select PS1 titles according to Sony. This is for all models from the 20 GB to the 320 GB. For the PS2 games only the early 4 USB port PS3s could play the games and not all of the titles

∙ 12y agoThe best way to answer is with the standard answer on PS3 models that Play PS2 games since the 60GB models differ in what lets them play PS2 games.
The 20 GB PS3 could play PS2 games and so could the 60 GB model that was released with it and those machines are called the first generation PS3 Models. The second Generation PS3 model were the 60 GB Model and the 80 GB model and while they could play the PS2 games it was based on Partially software-based PS2 emulation while the earlier models were Hardware-based PS2 emulation. These 1st and 2nd generation PS3 models all included 4 USB ports and also had Flash memory card readers. The 3rd generation of PS3 models had the 40 GB, the 80 GB, and the 160 GB Harddrives but only 2 USB ports and do not play PS2 games with backward compatibility. The fourth Generation of PS3s are the 120 GB and 250 GB PS3 slim model which do not play PS2 games with Backward Compatibility. All PS3 models play PlayStation 1 Games and do so through software emulation.

Think about it, if people could play PS3 games on a PS1 or PS2 then why not buy a ps1 for 5 dollars and play the ps3 games on it? To answer your question, no you can't but you can play PS2 games on your PS3 now sure about PS1 you might be able to. You also can not purchase a new PS3 and play PS2 games on it and have not been able to for years. Only the old 4 USB port models could play PS2 games and then it was not every title game available back in 2006 0r 2007.
