okay,i answer this questions to my friends all the time..a psp 1000 or 1001 isn't compadible with 2000 or 3000 BUT the games are made so that you can play it on ANY psp manufactured by SONY.If you have a friend that has a psp 1001 and you have a 3000 and you want to multiplayer lets say midnight club 3 dub edition you cant because the psp 3000 can understand the psp 1001 but the 1001 cant understand the 3000 because its an evolved technology

You don't have to buy the 3000, you can just buy the 1000 or 2000 and update the system to modern. I found my old PSP and its the 1000 one and i couldn't play birth by sleep without updating my system. Updating free too.
