Yes, Australian games will work on a UK PS3. In fact since the PS3 has no region lock whatsoever, you could even play American and Japanese games on it.

This is wrong, PS1 and 2 are not region free on games, for a UK system you must have a PAL formatted disc for it to play, American and canadiam disc and consoles are formatted differently therefor you will not be able to play them. The PS3 however, sony decided to make region free games but it is still region locked on DVD's.
