Sure. You can also set fire to the pants you're wearing at the time while you're at it. They're about equally good ideas.

A lamp that's rated for 60 watts has been determined to be safe when used with a bulb of that wattage. Higher wattage bulbs, especially halogen bulbs, are likely quite a bit hotter than the lamp was designed to withstand ... and that's ignoring the fact that the wiring was designed for currents appropriate for a 60-watt load, and quadrupling that is going to overload them and may even cause them to short out and/or catch fire.

Because I'm not absolutely certain that anyone who would think this could possibly work out okay will pick up on the subtle nuances here ...

Do not ever use a bulb of a wattage higher than the fixture is rated for.

Why Metal halide fixture with a 175 w bulb and correct ballast could overheat?

Make sure you are using a metal halide bulb and the ballast is matched to the wattage on the bulb. These both must be correct.

What has the author E W Taylor written?

E W. Taylor has written: 'Some aspects of the use of metal-halide discharge lamps for film lighting' 'The CSI 1KW metal-halide discharge lamp' 'Film lighting using metal-halide lamps' 'A study of peak multiplexed signal level in the context of 2 1/2-or 3-channel surround-sound transmissions'

What would be the cost of operating 60 1000watt Metal Halide lamps for 10 hr?

To find out the cost of operating 60 1000watt Metal Halide lamps for 10 hours, you multiply the amount of power (in kilowatts) by time and hours. That will give you kWh (kilowatt hours), then you find out how much your power costs in $/kWh, then divide the kilowatt hours you are using by the cost ($/kWh).

What will be the effect if you were using different brand outlet and lighting fixture instead?

As long as the outlet and the fixture are compatible in voltage, amperage and pin configuration, there should be no problem using them together.

Why use 277v light fixtures instead of 110v light fixtures?

277v light fixtures are more efficient to operate and less expensive to install than a 110v fixture of identical wattage. 277v light fixtures are typically installed when 480V 3 Phase primary electric service supplies a commercial or industrial facility. 277v lighting circuits are single phase circuits using one of the 480v primary phases (A,B & C) to Neutral. The higher voltage allows more fixtures per circuit using smaller conductors and longer runs typically required in warehouse lighting applications. ( Amps = Watts/Volts: 400W/277V Fixture = 1.4 Amps, 400W/110V fixture = 3.6 Amps) With 480V 3 Phase primary service, 110V Single Phase power is created using a Step-down transformer. The voltage transformation process consumes power (kWh) and the 277V fixture will consume less kWh than a 110V fixture if identical wattage, especially in fixtures with ballasts such as fluorescent or High Intensity Discharge (HID), like Sodium, Metal Halide or Mercury Vapor.

What do you do when the ground wire from the wall is too short to reach the grounding screw on the new fixture plate?

Splice a new green wire to extend it, using the same size gauge of wire. Do not use wire nuts, use a proper electrical connector with grub-screws which can be securely tightened-up. As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

Why primary alkyl halide are not syntesized using Sn1 reaction?

as order of reactivity of sn1 reaction is 3>2>1 , we do not synthesise primary alkyl halide using sn1 reation. as there is no pushing from other carbon atoms, it is difficult for the X part of RX to separate itself.

How do you rewire a 400 watt metal halide shop light to run on 110?

400w is the power 110 is the voltage. Is your light using 110v already or 220v? Believe you are already running at 110 and u don't understand electrical terms. Perhaps you should call an electrician

How to Replace an Exterior Light Fixture?

How to Replace an Exterior Light FixtureReplacing an exterior light fixture is not difficult at all and you can do it even if you have limited electrical experience.Cutting the PowerBefore you do any electrical work of any kind, you will need to cut the power at the home's electrical circuit box. Go back to the light switch and turn it on to make sure there is no power. If you want to be extra safe you can even use an electrical tester to double check.Replacing the FixtureMost light fixtures will require a simple screw driver to install and uninstall them. Remove the mounting screws hold the fixture in place and allow it to hang by the wire connections. Unscrew the wire nuts holding the two wires together and remove the old fixture. The new fixture goes on the same way by connecting the like colored wires using the wire nuts. Unless the old wire nuts are in excellent condition, use new wires nuts, especially if they come prepackaged with the new fixture. Place all connected wire and wire nuts back into the electrical box mounted inside the wall. Install any new mounting brackets needed for the new fixture and secure the fixture to the mounting brackets using a screw driver. Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker box and test your new fixture connection.

Can you hang a light fixture by using a new work tab box?

Not a good practice. Depending on the weight of the fixture it may pull out of the ceiling sooner or later. Even if it seems strong, what if there were a leak and the Sheetrock became wet and the fixture fell on someone and hurt them. You need to install a fixture made for ceiling installation that is attached properly to something other than Sheetrock.

Do flood lights use a lot of electricity?

Typical flood lights use between 75 and 300 watts per bulb. Many fixtures have more than one light bulb, and many home installations have more than one fixture. Yes, flood lights use a lot of electricity. The figures can be brought down a bit by using mercury vapor or halide lamps.
