Yes, an above ground pool can be moved to a different location.

First, you should prepare the new site in accordance with your pool manufacturers instructions. Have all of your electrical and Plumbing already in place also.

Next, of course, you will have to empty and dis-assemble the pool.

Then, re-assemble the pool at the new site in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

I would perform the re-assembly step as "quickly as reasonable" since the liner should not be allowed to sit in the sun without water. The liner may shrink and will not stretch back when installed again. Once shrunk, you may need to purchase a new liner.

Hope this helps ...

Stretch or no stretch, the big problem is aligning the cutouts for the skimmer and return fitting. Don't even try. Get a large piece of vinyl and a tube of repair cement, and patch the existing cutouts. Position the liner so that these will be somewhere away from the skimmer/return, and cut new openings once the liner is flattened against the wall, just as you would for a new liner. I don't think I'd try this with a liner more than a few years old. I would agree though, that the work should be planned to minimize the time the liner is out of the water.

Possibly ... check the local building permit office though ... putting something that was designed to be totally above ground below grade may required a building permit, as it will become a semi-permanent structure, which also may required a concrete foundation. Your local building department will be able to answer those questions better.

Not typically. The reason these installations ALL fail is really quite simple.

Hydrostatic pressure. The walls of an above ground pool are not made to withstand even the smallest amount of outside pressure that is caused by groundwater, or by shifts in the soil outside the pool. In-ground pools are made to block groundwater, and are built robustly to withstand most increases in pressure caused by water entering the surrounding soil.

---

There are 4 types of in-ground Swimming Pools: Concrete, gunite, vinyl liner, and fiberglass. They all share one thing in common: the walls.

They are built or manufactured in such a way as to withstand hydrostatic pressure. The wall of each pool is the first 3 1/2' down from the top of the pool. In other words, no matter how deep the pool may be, the first 3 1/2' is the wall and everything else is called the bottom.

Concrete and gunite pools have a one foot thick wall; the rest of the pool is only 8". Vinyl liner pool walls, usually made of galvanized steel or fiberglass are only about 1/2" thick, but they are anchored to the ground with "A" braces every 8 feet. A concrete pier is then poured on the end of each "A" brace, and a concrete collar is poured at the bottom of the wall all around the entire pool. Fiberglass pool walls are 5/8" thick and made with many layers of fiberglass, vinyl ester resin, and gel coat creating an extremely strong laminate.

All this with just one purpose in mind: to withstand the hydrostatic pressure that will begin attacking these walls the very first time it rains or snows. Common sense tells us that this rain and snow must go somewhere, and the obvious answer is "into the ground". Water actually moves underground thus the term: hydrostatic pressure.

With this in mind, check out the walls of an above ground pool. They are built to keep water in, not out, and will buckle in comparatively easily. Consider how well they will handle hydrostatic pressure compared to a foot of concrete or any of the other walls listed above.

*Some desert areas with virtually no rain could have a reinforced out-of-ground pool put into the ground. It may deteriorate eventually and could cave in if left empty, from the pressure of the dry soil.

yes they can...as long as you use some kind of padding under the liner...ie: happybottom.... and a pool cove where the pool meets the concrete....i believe anyways..........

I would not, you need some kind of cushion for the floor to lay on and the bottom of the pool needs support at the edges. That is done by contouring the ground.

That sort of thing is done quite often and it will give you the opportunity to do any repairs that may be required while you are at it.
