It's possible to do so, and in fact until about a hundred years ago was the only way to make the trip.
However, I don't think there are any regularly scheduled ships that make the trip; the only regularly scheduled transatlantic ship I'm aware of is Cunard's Southampton - NYC route, and that takes a week or more and costs about a thousand dollars one way for an inside cabin.
