I have had Asthma for 13 years now, and I have driven many many miles since I was first diagnosed. Driving while having an asthma attack is not preferable, but it can still be done. The best thing for everyone's safety is to pull over some where safe and use your rescue inhaler. Because I had small children when I was first diagnosed, I wanted to be sure that everyone would be safe if I had an asthma attack when driving. So I taught my son how to steer the car over to the side of the road and put the car into park,just in case mom couldn't. All my children also knew how to call 911 by 4 years old for just such an emergency.

∙ 14y agoAbsolutely, depending of course on the severity of the asthma. You would not want to attempt a dive during an asthma attack, and no one in that condition would think of trying it. One has asthma for life--even though childhood asthma is often "outgrown". I had some very serious asthma attacks as a child, but became largely "symptom free" by about age 16. I went on to become a commercial deep sea diver for 10 years. With my lungs being about half as efficient as healthy lungs, I should not have been allowed to be a working diver. I had the bends (decompression sickness) four times during my career, possibly as a result of poor lung function.
