if you want your guests to get incredibally ill of deadened taste buds!
It depends on the recipe. Often, applesauce is used to add moisture to the dish so it doesn't get dry as it sits. Also, people will substitute applesauce for oil to reduce the fat in a dish. So, oil or butter will be a good substitute, but will up the calories.
It's might be better to substitute oils, butter and margarine with applesauce in oil-based baked goods like muffins and breads, or moist cakes. Substitute applesauce one for one with the oil, and it helps to add in 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. They say a little oil goes a long way in contributing to a better taste and texture. I've done this a few times with a zucchini bread recipe that calls for 1/2 cup of oil. I use 1/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup applesauce and the bread tastes great.
I'm a huge fan of replacing oil with applesauce. If the recipe calls for 1/2 c. of oil, I use 1/2 c. applesauce as a healthy alternative. You will not taste apple regardless of the cake's flavor. If you don't keep applesauce in your home you can also use sour cream, or plain yogurt in the same way. Best of luck! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmm!! leaving out the shortening will affect the texture of the cake, I will not say the above answer is wrong but try it on a small cake first.
You can substitute butter with applesauce, pureed prunes, or apple butter. No joke! Yes, it sounds discusting, it probably is. don't ask me I've never tried it.
Substitute apple sauce for vegetable oil in equal parts. (And it contains less fat!) Other ideas: shortening (use ¼ more) OR (in baking) fold stiffly beaten egg whites into the batter Sources: experience
One way to eat latkes is with sour cream and applesauce . Applesauce with butter and cinnamon. It's another way! Apple butter!
If you are following a recipe that calls for Apple butter then no...you can't use apple jelly...different, texture, different taste, different ingrediants but if you are creating your own recipe then yes you can use whatever you like...just be prepared because creating your own recipe will make it your fault if it comes out nasty! However the only way to learn is to try!
.....in home ec our teacher told us to use the same amount of apple sauce as the recipe calls for butter...but that was for cakes, like porous bakes, cakes, some cookies etc...i know that you can also use bananas instead of butter too.
yes u can i have baked with my babysitter and we used applesauce
Go to a website: recipetips.com, go to tips and advice, enter your question in keywords, go to lowfat recipe substitutions. You will see other substitutions besides butter. I haven't tried this and some say to split the amount half and half (Replace 1 cup of butter with half cup butter, half cup applesauce). This site has saved me on several occasions. Check out the other parts of the site. Good luck.
Often times, yes, this is a safe substitution. If there is a lot of oil (say 1/2 - 1 cup) it might be better to only substitute half of the oil for applesauce, otherwise it has the potential to interfere with the taste and texture too much.
