It can be done, but you need to add the clutch system, and cut the floor to allow for the shifter.
Manual is a AX15, automatic is a 32RH (a904)
The 32RH is a 3-speed tranny, with no overdrive.
The ax5 ( for 4 cyl )will fit up to 1996, and the ax15 is good thru 99. as for the auto trans you'd have to look at it but, The 32RH automatic transmission was used in 1992 to 1995 and 1997-2002 Wrangler with 6 cyl.
There are three connections on the AX-15 if those connections are available one 90 jeep then go ahead and swap.
