Most over-the-counter cough syrup medications have ibuprophen, or a similar drug, in them already as an inflamation reducer and pain relief. Look at the directions that came with your cough medicine, as a list of all included medications should be listed. If the medication does not contain ibuprophen, and there are no warnings against taking the ibuprophen, then it should be ok to take the recommended dose of both. For a more complete answer, and before taking most medications, see you doctor.

Short Answer: No. Long Answer: maybe. Acetaminophen, known commonly as Tylenol, is added as an ingredient in most cough syrups. Overdoses of acetaminophen is currently the leading cause of liver failure. Read the label of the cough syrup you are planning on taking before taking any medications, and be sure that there is not already any acetaminophen in the syrup before you take any additional acetaminophen. If you don't know, then DO NOT take any acetaminophen separately.

i would think that mixing acetaminophen and aspirin is unwise. They are two different pain killers used for the same cause. Acetaminophen will eat your liver, and aspirin will eat you stomach...It's a double whammy! Don't do it...

It depends on the contents of the cough syrup. If the cough syrup contains a blood thinner, taking that along with the aspirin could be dangerous.
