Yes you can but the risks of this combination needs to be CAREFULLY monitered, amitriptyline is a sedative tricycle anti-depressent and ambien is a Non-benzo (Z Drug) classification.

Mixing both together would most likely cause you to black out depending on how many you take.

My doctor, a sleep medicine specialist, prescribed doxepin for me to take with ambien, to overcome the short term effect of ambien. I disagree with the do not mix answer....

If taken together there can be an increase in CNS DEPRESSION. If one is not working why not stop one and start another? but elavil must be tapered down!!
